Pioneer Power
The Pioneers had a jam-packed adventure this week! They explored their creative side with DIONNE sponge painting handheld flags. ADAM and HANK kept everyone on the move playing Dodgeball, Traffic Jam, and Warp Speed. The Pioneers helped MARION feed the animals at the petting zoo and the nature center. The rain didn't stop the Pioneers - they just moved the fun indoors with relay races, songs, painting, making necklaces and bracelets, and much, much more! The fun continues next week as we Cruise to the Caribbean!
The Trailblazers were on the move this week! JEFF, BJ, STUART and the EAGLES filled their time learning and playing cricket, Queenball, handball, floor hockey, capture the flag, and soccer. ROLO, JUSTIN, and the ICE CUBES learned about campfire safety, and then cooked their own lunch. MARK, JAMES, CHRISTY and the BEETLES spent time building a fort, hiking Kinser's Climb, and playing capture the flag. LAUREN, JILL, and the SECOND GRADE GIRLS got creative making Red, White and Blue lanyards, and warm fuzzy bags. ALEXIS, REBECCA, and the THIRD GRADE GIRLS got down and dirty hunting for salamanders, hiking, and building a fort. Everybody pack your bags, and be ready to travel - we're off on a Caribbean Cruise next week!
The Explorers were all over camp this week as they enjoyed the theme week of Red, White and You. The Sports & Games campers ran, shot and kicked their way through the week, as their counselors STEVE, JESSIE, TOM & MB organized sports that included baseball, basketball & handball. The Art & Drama campers, led by EMILY & LESLIE, got into the week's theme by making red, white and blue lanyards, tie dying and performing a time travel skit on Wednesday. The Great Outdoors campers continued their long and arduous task of clearing Kinser's climb, and they also made birdhouses with TOM. On Wednesday, they enjoyed their cookout at Walnut Creek, along with getting wet canoeing and swimming. The Colt Campers worked on their riding skills as their counselors KRISTIN, CHRIS, HOLLY and JENNIFER taught them mounting and dismounting from the horse, holding of the reins, and balancing while on the horse. All the explorers are ready for fun next week on a CARIBBEAN CRUISE.
Teen
Scene on Tour The Teen Scene started off the week with choices, choices, and more choices. They played dodgeball with ADAM, helped feed the animals with MARION, learned how to use compasses with CATHY at Nature, got the opportunity to climb and Zip with HANK at the Challenge Course and made red, white and blue beads with DIONNE at Arts & Crafts. They kept busy on Tuesday as they watched a movie, chowed down on their picnic lunch, then swam at the Washington Park pool. On Wednesday, volunteered at McIntire Recycling Center and Colonnades Retirement Home, before heading to the Charlottesville Ice Park. On Thursday, the Teen Scene had a day off. Friday was back at camp for more choice activities and the huge 4th of July All-Camp Celebration. The Teen Scene can't wait to see what KATY MAC, GINNY, and ERIC have in store next week as they go on a Caribbean Cruise!
"The Edge" campers had a fabulous week this week as they led projects all around camp. Monday SAM helped the Trailblazer Girls decorate cookies in patriotic colors, and Tuesday TOM and the Great Outdoors campers made birdhouses with some help from CATHY. Later in the week we painted them, and hung them up around camp. As always we had a blast with Trailblazer Choice Activity Time! MAUREEN and JESSIE debuted in "The Edge" as they led flamingo tag, band-aid tag, tunnel tag, balloon sandwich, musical statues, and balloon volleyball. A great Choice Activity time! Friday was the grand finale as we took a lead with the phenomenal all-camp activities!! Next week "The Edge" campers are headed to the barn for a fun-filled week of horsy games and knowledge. |
