2001

Greetings from Triple C Camp!

Lights, Camera, Action...
Creativity was in the air this week as our artists and actors enjoyed the Showtime theme. Sunglasses Day was bright as our campers showed their Hollywood spirit. On Friday, many of our campers chose to participate in the Kinser Climb, a one mile run/walk on a trail built by nature specialist JOSH and the Great Outdoors Campers. Congratulations to HILLARY W who finished in 1st place as an individual, and the Teen Scene participants who finished 1st as a team! A strong effort was made by the SECOND GRADE BOYS, who managed to come in 3rd place overall (competing against middle school campers, quite a feat!) Be sure to check out the pictures below to see the Climb in action! Friday, all camp was full of fun new activities that made many memories!

A special note about our own new rising stars...
"THE EDGE", our leadership training program, has been going strong for the last two weeks. The participants got a better understanding of themselves while working within a group. Through observation, participation and self evaluation, they discovered first hand how hard yet rewarding being a camp counselor is. Their creativity shined as they planned and implemented not only a field trip for themselves but were an integral part of the Great Outdoors field trip this week. Great job everyone!

PIONEER ACTION!

Check out these crazy campers - CHRIS K, PARKER C, NOAH P, AARON S and IZZY B LOVE TRIPLE C!

Action was everywhere the Pioneers went this week!

In Arts & Crafts with MICHELLA, the Pioneers were busy making wood stick puzzles, toothpick pictures, paper bag masks, finger puppets, body shapes and decorations, pom-pom creatures, dancing puppets and words with twigs.

BRAD kept the Pioneers busy in Sports & Games with Olympic Field Events that included a boomerang throw, a Frisbee toss, races, and more.

Everyone enjoyed the beauty of the Triple C Camp Hiking Trails with JOSH this week, as the Pioneers explored the creek and trail area hunting for salamanders, leaves, and other small insects to show off. The Pioneers also did some twig architecture, leaf memory games, tree sketches, and listened to stories about JOSH's Himalayan adventures.

DEAN taught the Pioneers about the ferrets, rabbits, rodents, and the miniature horses, and the best part was animal hygiene and cleaning! Everyone enjoyed scooping the petting zoo area and grooming the animals!

MERRYL kept the Pioneers moving at the Challenge Course, where the Pioneers learned about working as a team and how important everyone in the group is when they completed the Team Play Tube Game. Be sure to ask your camper to explain this one!

At the pool this week, all of the Pioneers improved their strokes, learned about safety in the water and more during lessons with HEIDI, DOM, and ROB.

Next week is sure to be jam-packed with a plethora of activities in World of Wonder at Triple C Camp!!

EXPLORING THE BIG SHOW

JAMES R and LANCE working in the Riding Ring

Movies, Charades, Skits and more!

The ART & DRAMA campers showed us their talents this week with numerous skits and dramatics. They learned new dances and became professional lanyard makers.

The GREAT OUTDOORS campers drew silhouettes, created their own Miniature Golf Course, learned about fire building and safety, and continued working on their fort, as well as trekking through the woods and creeks searching for salamanders. And they still had time to build Gnome Homes throughout the woods, and to go to Walnut Creek for an all day outing!

The HORSEBACK RIDERS were all about showing off in the ring this week. They continued their riding skills and even became horses themselves as they paired up and learned to move their legs just as the horses do. They shined at round-up this week with a number of great performances.

SPORTS & GAMES campers played capture the flag, worked on their sporting skills in soccer, golf, ultimate Frisbee, basketball, Olympic field sports and of course, lounged Hollywood style beside and in the pool.

TEEN SCENE REVIEW

Stretch, CHELSEA P, stretch!

Lights...Camera...The Teen Scene is always full of Action!

On Monday the Teen Scene was spotted in the woods with JOSH, making crafts with MICHELLA, taking care of the animals with DEAN, playing a competitive game of Capture the Flag, and relaxing in the pool.

Their out of camp adventures started Tuesday, where the Teen Scene made guest appearances at Regal Cinemas for a sneak peak at "Pokemon 3" or "Galaxy Quest", before heading to AMF Keglers for an afternoon of bowling.

On Wednesday the Teen Scene lent a hand at the Winterhaven Retirement Community where they got to know some of the residents, or assisted the Charlottesville Parks & Rec. Department with landscaping at Starr Hill Park, while others organized at the McIntire Recycling Center. After a morning of manual labor, the Teen Scene ventured over to Onesty Pool at Meade Park, for an afternoon of fun in the sun!

On Thursday the Teen Scene ventured to the Richmond Science Museum where they got the chance to see "Journey into Amazing Caves" on the IMAX screen, where they wriggled through tiny, twisting passages, dropped into gleaming blue labyrinths of ice, swam through flooded underground vaults, and viewed a world so extreme and inhospitable the creatures that live there are called extremophiles. It was an amazing show! The afternoon was spent exploring the wonderful Museum and learning about new and exciting things.

On Friday the Teen Scene had a jam-packed day of camp activities that ranged from Knockout at the basketball court to horseback riding to trying the Vine Walk on the Challenge Course.

Next week, be ready because it's a World of Wonder at Triple C Camp!
