2001

Greetings from Triple C Camp!

Yeeeeee Haw! Cowboys, Indians, Pony Express Riders and a Square Dancing Crew all helped to authenticate the atmosphere during our Western Round Up Week. The wanted posters for the DUCK-napper “H” even had GULLIVER the DUCK involved as the posse cabin groups searched the west until GULLIVER was safely returned to camp. Everyone lived happily, ever after. A special thanks to Larry Winegard (the square dance caller), Gordie Aamanski and all the Virginia Reelers Square Dance Club Members who taught us about the fun involved in square dancing. Everyone loved the square dancing!

PIONEER POWER!

Counselor SARAH gets attacked by the KINDERGARDENERS!

All the Triple C Camp Cow-Pokes were in true Western mode as they wound their way through the West then visited all areas of camp.

In the Studio they made Horses, Tee Pees, Indian Head dresses, Beaded necklaces, Sheriff's vests, Texas Ranger Badges and Indian Dream Catchers. WOW were those Cow-Pokes busy.

In Drama they portrayed life in the West. Out in the Woods with JOSH all the campers communed with nature and some studied salamanders. Sports & Games had the campers playing traditional games of the western
cowboy times as well as some groups took aim at the archery range.

And at the POOL… things there are going off without a hitch. Everyone is swimming better and better every day! REMINDER– We do offer after camp swim lessons if campers need to fine tune their skills even more. Please call the Ranch (aka the Camp Office 293.2529) for more information or to sign up. Next we will be traveling through time as we have our TIME WARP week! THE FUN NEVER ENDS FOR THE PIONEERS @ TRIPLE C CAMP!

EVER EXPLORING...

MAX H. and WILL R. dancing to WILD WILD WEST

"WILD, WILD, WEST” was the amazing performance given by the ART & DRAMA
group this week at ROUND-UP. They showed the camp how the folks of times gone by entertained themselves with creative song and dance. The HORSEBACK RIDERS rode in western saddles and even tried out the Native American way of Bare Back. Rumor has it they prefer the cushy soft seat of English style.

Some of the Horseback riders even created homemade ice cream. SPORTS & GAMES enjoyed their continuing education in the variety of Games, Songs and Dance that were enjoyed by Cowboys. The fine skill of archery was also enjoyed.

The GREAT OUTDOORS campers worked on their outdoor living skills this week and cooked ON THE RANGE style over the open fire. Beans always taste better cooked over the open fire. Many of the Explorer groups performed at Roundup this week and it was a very impressive display of the talents our campers possess.

TIME WARP with us next week as we go FAR OUT, and get GROOVY!

TRAVELING TEEN SCENERS

Fun and excitement for all! For more information call camp @ 293-2529 or ask the Teen Scene staff for more information! DON'T MISS THIS ADVENTURE space still available August 20-24!!

The Teen Scene started Western Roundup week with a jam-packed day of camp activities which included making Wanted Posters and riding horses.

On Tuesday, the Teen Scene traveled to Chris Greene Lake for a day of FUN IN THE SUN! Everyone had the opportunity to hike, swim in a sand-bottomed lake, and canoe.

The Teen Scene resumed community service this week, with campers assisting with the residents at the Winterhaven Retirement Community, reorganizing the book room at the McIntire Recycling Center, socializing with the residents at Westminster Canterbury, and helping with a landscaping project led by the Charlottesville City Parks & Rec Department at Washington Park.

JACOB H. and BRYAN D square dancing with some real cowgirls!

On Thursday, campers started their day with a tour of the Montebello Fish Station before heading Westwards to Crab Tree Falls where campers enjoyed an afternoon of scenic hiking.

Back at the ranch on Friday, campers spent the morning in choice activities before enjoying an authentic Western Hoedown, complete with square dance callers and dancers in the pavilion. Next week, campers will visit all decades, past, present, and future as they participate in the TIME WARP Triple C Camp Style.
