Pioneer Power!
Amazing things were happening in the world of the Pioneers this week. We rode horses, played in the petting zoo, AND SO MUCH MORE! Some activities that enhanced our Adventure Island theme were: The Kindergarten Girls and Kindergarten Boys built sand castles, went hiking, as well as learning new songs and games. The First Grade Girls made grass skirts, painted walking sticks, and went on an amazing treasure hunt. The First Grade Boys , with their counselors JON, RICHARD and ANGIE baked yummy cookies, and learned how to play Queen ball. The First and Second Grade Boys, with PAUL and TONY, made eye patches, and learned how to play 4-Square. The Second Grade Girls made pretzels from scratch, and challenged the Second Grade Boys to Queen Ball. The Second Grade Boys designed Triple C Camp maps, and played floor hockey. Everyone had a great time in the pool this week as they learned to kick, glide, float, and blow bubbles in the water. Great advances were made at the pool this week! All of the Pioneers had a great week and met lots of new friends! More fun is in store for next week!!
What a week! The HORSEBACK RIDERS enjoyed their time at the barn, but it was nice to cool off in the pool after lunch. They also loved making frozen fruit smoothies for a snack! The ART & DRAMA ladies learned an array of silly songs and games with AMANDA, and beautified the studio with MICHELLA. Our GREAT OUTDOOR enthusiasts enjoyed participating in a Potato Olympics, as well as spending time with JOSH hiking in the woods. Our SPORTS & GAMES campers spent time playing Queen Ball, Sardines, Touch Rugby, and many more games. They also enjoyed their time with DEAN, and the animals at the petting zoo.
Our Traveling Teen Sceners started off this camp season with a bang! When they are not hanging around camp working together on the challenge course, swimming in the pool, or riding horses they are zipping around Charlottesville and the surrounding counties trying their hands out in many different and exciting activities. On Tuesday, our 42 fabulous campers spent the day playing miniature golf at Highland Golf Park and swimming at Chris Greene Lake. On Wednesday, the group spent the morning doing community service at Ivy Sanitation, beautifying the tree lines in front of the County Office Building, and visiting with the residents of Winterhaven Retirement Home. Following community service, our campers spent the afternoon picking raspberries and blueberries at the Berry Patch and swimming at Washington Park. On Thursday, we visited Sherwood Llama Farms and witnessed first hand the exciting world of Llama raising and breeding. Feeding and Petting the Llamas were just a few of the things our campers were able to do. We then traveled to Walnut Creek for some rest and relaxation. The Teen Scene will be doing many exciting things this summer, so stay tuned to see what develops! |
